Adventure was the first of the ‘Big
Five’ with the first issue published
The boys’ story paper market at
the time was dominated by Gem and Magnet with school stories
about Billy Bunter, Harry Wharton & Tom Merry.
The success of this publication
led to The Rover and The
Wizard being published the following year.
The demise of the story papers
came in the 1950’s with the publication Eagle, Lion &
Tiger these comics had picture strips.
The last issue of Adventure (1878) was published
Hornet, Valiant
& Victor were published in the 1960’s these publication’s featured the story
paper heroes like Alf Tupper, Braddock, The Wolf of Kabul & V for Vengeance
in picture strips.
